Elements and Performance Criteria
- Prepare for dispensing of optical appliances
- Operate focimeter and conduct final checking procedures
- Determine any axis or centring error and apply Australian Standards tolerances.
- Check the spectacles on the focimeter to identify and verify powers, axes and centration
- Check lens surface for scratching and aberrations
- Adjust the frame to standard alignment
- Check metal framed spectacles for strain
- Clean spectacles
- Clean equipment and attachments in accordance with manufacturer's requirements and infection control procedures
- Undertake regular maintenance procedures on equipment in accordance with manufacturer's requirements and infection control procedures
- Store equipment and attachments in accordance with manufacturer's requirements and organisation policies and procedures
- Place orders for optical appliances
- Place orders for the edging of spectacle lenses
- Order lenses fitted to both plastic and metal frames
- Order special hand-edging to modify lenses for change-overs and centring corrections
- Order lenses to be edged, grooved and mounted to nyl-tag frames
- Order lenses to be edged, drilled and mounted to rimless frames
- Order tinted lenses to required standards
- Perform frame adjustments and repairs
- Utilise computer technology
- Select appropriate technology and software applications to achieve the requirements of the task
- Adjust workspace, furniture and equipment to suit the ergonomic requirements of the user
- Use technology according to organisation requirements and in a way which promotes a safe work environment
- Carry out or arrange routine maintenance in order to ensure that equipment is maintained in accordance with manufacturer's instructions and organisation requirements
- Identify equipment faults and take action in accordance with manufacturer's instructions or by reporting fault to designated person
